Each token is backed one-to-one with a real unit of that resource: one token equals one barrel of oil, one ounce of gold, or one standard cubic foot of gas. Their first live tokenization — called Asphalt Bluff South — covers 20 million barrels of asphalt binder located in Utah. Each of those barrels is represented by exactly one token, issued at a one-to-one ratio. This project is the clearest illustration of what "in-ground" tokenization actually means in practice: the asset exists physically, it's recoverable, and the token represents the net proceeds from that recoverable reserve.
EtherStrike structures investor access in tiers that follow the natural progression of a commodity project: from discovery, through pre-production, into production. Investors who enter early — at the discovery or pre-production stage — can acquire tokens at a properly priced discount, then benefit from tier compression as the project matures.
This structure is a direct response to a real market problem: early-stage commodity exposure is extremely difficult for most investors to access. As discussed in this episode of The Single Source, the tiered model is described as the biggest value driver in EtherStrike's approach — giving investors a path from pre-production to production that was previously unavailable through traditional instruments.
The choice to focus exclusively on non-producing resources was deliberate. Producing assets already have established financing channels. The gap — and therefore the opportunity — sits in the earlier stages, where blockchain-based tokenization can open access to investors who would otherwise have no entry point.
